Purpose -
At Little Legends, the safety and well-being of every child is our top priority. We are committed to providing a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for children aged 1.5 to 8 years old to learn and enjoy sports. This safeguarding policy outlines the steps we take to protect children from harm and promote their welfare.
Scope -

This policy applies to:

- All Little Legends staff, including coaches, assistants, and volunteers. - Parents, carers, and guardians attending sessions with their children. - Third-party contractors and any individuals engaged in our activities.

Key Principles
​
1. Child Welfare Comes First: The safety of children is paramount, and their welfare takes precedence over all other considerations.
​
2. Inclusivity: We respect all children regardless of gender, race, religion, ability, or background.
​
3. Zero Tolerance for Abuse: We do not tolerate any form of bullying, harassment, or abuse.
​
​
Roles and Responsibilities
Staff and Volunteers
- Must undergo enhanced DBS checks before engaging with children.
​
- Attend regular safeguarding training.
- Promote a safe and welcoming environment.
- Report concerns following the procedures outlined below.

Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
​
- Oversees safeguarding practices at Little Legends.
- Acts as the main point of contact for concerns or allegations.
- Ensures the policy is regularly reviewed and updated.
​
​
Code of Conduct
​
- Treat all children with respect and dignity.
- Avoid being alone with a child whenever possible.
- Use appropriate language and behaviour at all times.
- Do not engage in physical contact unless necessary (e.g., for safety or instruction).
- Report any concerns or disclosures immediately.

​
Recognising and Reporting Concerns Types of Abuse
​
- Physical Abuse: Inflicting harm or failing to protect from harm.
- Emotional Abuse: Threats, criticism, or intimidation.
- Sexual Abuse: Inappropriate physical contact or exploitation.
- Neglect: Failing to meet a child’s basic needs.

Reporting Procedure
​
1. Immediate Danger: Call 999.
2. Concern or Disclosure: Report to the DSL as soon as possible.
3. Confidentiality: Keep information limited to relevant parties.
​
Parents and Guardians
​
- Are encouraged to report any concerns to the DSL.
​
- Must ensure their child is dropped off and picked up on time.
- Should inform staff of any medical or additional needs.
​
​
Photography and Social Media
​
- Parental consent is required for any photographs or videos of children.
- Images will be used responsibly and not shared without permission.
​
​
Health and Safety
​
- First aid kits are available at all sessions.
- Staff are trained in basic first aid.
- Emergency contact details are collected for all participants.

​

​
This policy will be reviewed annually or when significant changes occur.
